Tokonameyaki was born in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, at the end of the Heian period (794-1192) and has a history of 1,000 years. The city is truly a pottery town, blessed with high-quality clay and trade on a peninsula surrounded by the sea.
Inheriting tradition, focusing on usability, and creating new works. We offer ceramics that are filled with the creator’s thoughts and feelings. The beautiful kyusu is also an excellent gift for celebrations.
1. The kyusu is made of red clay and smoked black.
2. Built-in ceramic tea strainer [ceramish] eliminates the need for a tea strainer.
3. The structure allows tea leaves to spread easily, so you can enjoy the original flavor of tea.
4. Unlike metal tea strainers, there is no metallic smell.
5. The triangular tip of the spout allows tea to flow out easily and prevents leakage.

Description
This Tokoname ware tea set brings together the aesthetic and functional traditions of one of Japan's most respected pottery regions. The smoke black finish — achieved through controlled smoking during the kiln firing — gives this piece its deep, charcoal tone that's both visually striking and a hallmark of authentic Tokoname craft. Made in Japan, this is Japanese teaware at its most honest: no excess, no ornamentation, just clay, fire, and centuries of refined technique.

Why Choose This Tokoname Set
Tokoname has been producing pottery since the Heian period and is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns — a designation that carries real cultural and craft significance. The region's iron-rich clay is particularly suited to green tea brewing: the natural mineral interaction mellows tannins and rounds out the flavor in ways that glazed or non-traditional materials don't. A smoke black Tokoname piece develops character with use, its surface picking up tea oils and subtle patina that makes each piece uniquely yours over time.
How to Use
Warm the piece with hot water before brewing, then discard the water. Brew your preferred Japanese green tea and enjoy the way the unglazed clay enhances the cup. Clean with hot water only — never soap on the interior, as it will absorb into the porous clay. Allow to dry fully between uses. Handle with care; unglazed Tokoname ware chips more easily than glazed ceramics.
Perfect for: Japanese tea enthusiasts building a considered teaware collection, anyone drawn to the wabi-sabi aesthetic of unglazed ceramics, and tea drinkers who want their equipment to deepen the brewing experience.
