Hojicha is a Japanese green tea that has been roasted. Traditionally, the green tea was processed in this manner in a porcelain pot over charcoal at 150 °C.
Roasting the tea helps to not only prevent oxidation but also develop a beautiful light brown / light golden color.
And on top of that, the flavor is about as earthy, roasty and nutty as a Japanese tea can get.
Note that hojicha has very little caffeine content and is commonly consumed all throughout the day. It's especially popular after meals or with dessert because it helps balance out the sweetness!
This bag of hojicha is from Shizuoka, Japan

I’m always eager to try new teas, and Hojicha was a delightful surprise. Unlike regular green tea, which I find a bit fishy, Hojicha’s roasting process imparts a nutty flavor. It’s quick to prepare, requiring only a 40-second steep for a flavorful cup. The leaves can be reused for a second, equally satisfying brew. I’m definitely a fan!

Having experienced various Japanese teas like green tea, matcha, gyukuro, sencha, and hojicha, I can confidently say that this hojicha is quite enjoyable. It offers a full-bodied, smooth taste with rich roasted notes and low astringency.
To fully appreciate its flavor, it’s crucial to follow the brewing instructions and avoid scorching the tea with boiling water. I prefer brewing at 175°F.
This hojicha is a great choice for those seeking a high-quality, authentic Japanese tea experience.

While I’m not a tea expert, I enjoy drinking it. I typically prefer darker teas with various flavor additions. I’ve heard about the health benefits of green tea and wanted to try it.
This tea has an earthy flavor with a nutty aroma. The aroma is stronger than the taste, which I appreciate as it’s not overpowering. I’ve started adding it to my other teas, and the combinations are surprisingly good.
The tea brews to a beautiful rosy color when brewed alone. It doesn’t significantly alter the color of other teas and adds a unique twist to the flavor. Both my husband and I enjoy it.

I’m a green tea enthusiast, and Hojicha is a fascinating variation. It offers a distinct, almost nutty flavor profile, unlike traditional green tea. While I brewed it for the usual three minutes, resulting in a robust and flavorful cup, I’d recommend shorter brewing times for a milder taste.
It’s a great way to enjoy high-quality tea on the go. If you’re curious about Hojicha!

Hochicha is roasted green tea. It has a different flavor than green tea. Being Japanese we know our teas. Shizuoka is a nice area in Japan and this tea is very good. It is loose so you’ll need a strainer.
If you are looking for a nice and flavorful Hochicha, this is it.

As a green tea enthusiast, I was curious to try Hojicha. It’s quite delightful, more fragrant than traditional green tea, leaning towards oolong. The roasting process imparts a unique flavor profile, with a subtle raspberry aftertaste. While I don’t typically associate raspberry with tea, it’s an interesting and pleasant surprise.
